Through her organization, The h3 Project, Dr. Ami Angell has spent years finding creative, low-barrier ways to build trust with some of D.C.'s hardest-to-reach unhoused residents – work that last year alone contributed to 93 housing placements and 217 overdose reversals. Her outreach combines housing navigation, crisis intervention, harm reduction, and unconventional tools—including Synergy, an eight-pound mini pig who helps Angell build connections with people who may otherwise be reluctant to accept support. Angell’s approach centers on meeting people where they are and building the trust needed to connect them with housing, medical care, recovery services, and long-term stability.
