Data for Indigenous Justice

Organizational Awardee

Data for Indigenous Justice (DIJ) began as a grassroots effort in response to a lack of government accountability in tracking Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) in Anchorage, Alaska. Formed in 2020, DIJ now operates statewide to build and maintain a comprehensive database, publish Alaska-specific reports, and conduct outreach and training to improve data accuracy and awareness. Through this work, DIJ has helped Indigenous families and communities reclaim control over how information about their loved ones is recorded and shared, addressing long-standing gaps and inaccuracies in official systems.
