Pastor Sergio Amezcua
Pay-It-Forward Awardee

Pastor Sergio Amezcua, lead pastor of Dios Habla Hoy (DHH) Church in south Minneapolis, transformed his church into a major humanitarian hub in response to federal immigration enforcement surges in December 2025. Recognizing the fear and instability affecting immigrant and Latino families, he mobilized thousands of volunteers to deliver groceries and essential supplies directly to households, ensuring families could receive assistance safely, confidentially, and with dignity. What began as an emergency response quickly evolved into a structured, large-scale operation rooted in faith, compassion, and community solidarity which has delivered over 1.3 million pounds of food and served over 150,000 people. Through this work, Pastor Amezcua demonstrates how faith-driven leadership can protect, support, and uplift marginalized populations in times of fear and crisis—transforming a local church into a lifeline for thousands across Minneapolis and surrounding areas.
