SMYAL

Organizational Awardee

SMYAL is a leading nonprofit dedicated to supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ youth across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region. Founded in 1984, the organization provides mental health care, housing, leadership development, and community-building programs for queer and trans young people ages 6-24. As priorities for care evolved, SMYAL has expanded its services, including building the region’s largest housing program for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness. Rooted in a commitment to social change, SMYAL continues to create safe, affirming spaces where young people are equipped with the resources and community that supports them on a journey from surviving to thriving.
